THE OCEAN HOUSE/Watch Hill

The last 12 days of Summer were spent watching a grandie play football and relaxing at The Ocean House in Watch Hill. I was a little disappointed when Taylor and Kelsie weren’t available for brunch since they live here…..

The architecture of this resort is nothing short of jaw-dropping. And, the 5-star rating well deserved. It takes nearly a day to stroll around the building (once they pry you out of the spa) and see the little nooks and crannies hiding Madelaine (of book fame) paintings and more.

Upon arrival, a frosty glass of Champagne is presented. Good luck prying that out of my hand!

Your personal Concierge escorts you to your suite. As you walk the hallways, note the curvy walls and cheeky artwork. Again, the details are just amazing.

The history of this resort is equally impressive.

The Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, was originally built in 1868 and became a popular summer retreat for the wealthy. After closing in 2003 due to disrepair, it was demolished in 2005 and rebuilt to closely resemble the original structure, reopening in 2010.

Famously known for its warm yellow facade and stunning views of the Atlantic, the Rhode Island Ocean House opened in 1868 just after the Civil War.

For those who could afford the luxury of travel, Ocean House became the quintessential summer home attracting many distinguished guests in the early 1900s. The grand Victorian hotel was a genteel resort on the beach where generations of families and guests from across America came “to summer.” In fact, in 1916 Ocean House was immortalized in the silent movie American Aristocracy, starring Douglas Fairbanks.

Definitely put this on the bucket list for travel within the US. It books up quickly so be sure to leave time to get those special dates. There was a mean croquet game going on the front lawn as we arrived - I did notice there was plenty of Champagne in the silver buckets so, whomever loses may not even realize it or care!

Keep traveling and wander until found.
